Yep.

n 2005 the American Society of Anesthesiologists celebrated its 100th Anniversary as an educational, research and scientific association of physicians organized to raise and maintain the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and improve the care of the patient.

Since its founding in 1905, the Society's achievements have made it an important voice in American Medicine and the foremost advocate for all patients who require anesthesia or relief from pain.

Maybe you are thinking of Nurse Anesthetists?

old pro I was not asking a question, I was stating an obvious fact to the original poster. They're asking if DOs can only become physicians and I'm not sure what the person means by this. anesthesiologists are physicians, obviously (and in fact the specialty is one of the more competitive ones). May be the question is whether or not DOs can specialize? which you answered quite adequately :)
