I think a good preliminary assessment is get practice tests for all of the sub-sections of USMLE.
Take them, score the results, and identify your areas of strength and weakness.

Like for example, maybe you rock on the Pharmacology, but forgot everything about Microbiology - then you know where to target your effort overall, and work more efficiently

I hope you would have completed your exam by this time. I prefer preparing for USMLE step 1 from year 2 will help a lot in taking up the exam. As the first step mostly contain the questions from the first three year of study. In my opinion constant preparations from 1st year will help a lot in clearing the step 1.

In my opinion, before you start preparing for Step 1, you should have two things clearly in mind where you are with your score and where you want to be after the result of USMLE.

Step 1 requires you have to memorize many concepts as well as recall and apply them to answer questions. Just reading, understanding textbooks and solving as many questions . Solving questions with different ways of asking helps you clearly understand the concepts and improve a long-term memory.
Questions banks:
1. USMLEx: not completed
2. Kaplan Qbook
3. Kaplan Qbank
4. NMS review for USMLE step 1 examination
5. USMLE World Q bank online 1 month
6. NBME 4 forms.
