GPA of barely 3.0 at junior level, but I have 3 publication?

Post by mss4 »

I have struggled a little bit in my studies, and as a junior I have barely a 3.0, but I have excelled in research, and have 3 publications out.....I am showing improvement in my classes, but I changed my major to sociology and minoring in zoology and classics. Am I on a right path? or do I need to do something else? My MCAT is coming up, and I am preparing for it night and day...so hoping for the best. What can you advise?

Drop the minor unless you can get all A's

The publications are great but are not going to help a poor GPA

You need to get up to a 3.2 for even DO schools

You could do a Post Bac after this, 1 year SMP will work in this case with a 3.5 in it for MD schools

Do not take the MCAT unless you can get 30 or better or you have wasted your time. Studying for the MCAT is not enough you have to be able to work the test, you need to take practice tests practice tests over and over until you are in the 30 or better range.

No, you're not on the right path... a 3.0 overall GPA by your junior year is pretty bad if your hope is to get into a U.S MD school. What you need to do is to raise it up as high as possible before you graduate. And if it's not in a competitive range for acceptance, I recommend a post-bacc. As of now your chance isn't too good regardless of how well you do on your MCAT.
