Career and education discussion for nurses and nursing students. LPN/LVN, BSN, RN, MSN, Doctor of Nursing.
So many people want to become a nurse, but when they look at all of the courses and coursework that they have to do, they become frightened and scared. They need to realize that we are in a changing world where things are changing by the minute and we all need to go with what these changes are. The changes that have happened are charting medical files. The charting used to be all paper, but now they are mostly computer. Some units still do paper and computer, but the majority use computer. Another thing that has changed is the more advanced techniques that are required by nurses now. They have to learn a skill and do more advance ways in doing that procedure. Nursing has come a long way over the years and I think that is why people want to become a nurse in that it is a changing field, but some are scared to try it due to all of the hard work and rigorous training that it entails. I think that nursing is so hard these days is because of a few reasons. Nursing concepts have gotten much more broader, much more technical, and much more harder in recent years due to advances in medical technologies. The nursing process has become much more wider and more harder to do due to more tedious nursing concepts; however nursing has become a much more respected profession in recent years and many more people are willing to do the hard work and become a nurse which is a very good thing. Even though the nursing concepts are harder and more complex, our world is getting harder and changing rapidly and therefore nursing needs to be with the rest of the changing world.
One of the reasons that nursing has become so hard these days is because our world is getting so complex and harder; therefore nursing is becoming that way as well. Our technology is expanding and is becoming more and more complex. Documentation is mostly now being done by the computer. That is a huge advancement in medicine because nursing floors now have to have computers on a cart with wheels so that the medical computer chart is transportable to the patients rooms and different nursing units. There are also medical robotics that help nurses and doctors out which is a huge advancement in medicine. The nurse has to learn different techniques which are an advancement from 20 years ago. So, nursing is getting harder, but more technologically friendly too as the years go on.
Nursing is so hard because our whole world has become so hard. What I mean by that is children today have a lot more extra curricular activities to do, they have a lot more tests that they have to do today in school, they have a lot more standardized tests, they have to go to college, and possibly get a masters degree to even get a good paying job these days. Nurses have to do the same. They have to choose which nursing path to take, take an exam so that they can get into nursing school, make good GPA, and the GPA has to be high enough. Then, the job market is very stressful because everyone's competing for that one position. All of these factors contribute to our changing world in that it is so hard to work and raise a family today due to so many things and these are just some of the things that I listed.
