Post by unknown4ever »

How many osteopathic med students actually get seats in allopathic residencies for general surgery or internal med?

that's a tough one to answer. if u are an osteopathic students and want an allopathic spots u will get it if u really want it with good grades.

The NMRP match might be the right source to answer this question. Its not a simple answer of numbers. It all depends on individual preferences

Do you need to take USMLE exams in order to apply for allopathic residency ?

It really depends. I would reccomend it. If you are planning on trying to get in to the more competiive residencies such as surgery, then yes. Not all require it though. the COMPLEX exams usually suffice as to my knowledge.

Agree with above. For a rough guidiance, surgery, radiology, derm, ortho, plastic, neurosurg, anesth etc. These programs are competitive, if u are a DO student applying to allopathic programs, u will almost always have to take USMLE to get shot. COMLEX to these programs is as good as USMLE to Osteopathic program.

good luck
