Now, if a DO student takes both USMLE and COMLEX and applies to both osteopathic and allopathic residencies, he/she will have advantage over MD student. Is that allowed?

There really won't be any advantage for a DO grad over the MD student, aside from having more programs to choose from. IM isn't that competitive, and DO's match to allopathic programs all the time. General surgery is more competitive, but there are many DO matches in allopathic slots every year.

That being said, the AOA match is about a month before the NRMP match. You are allowed to do both, but you are automatically withdrawn from the NRMP if you match to an AOA program.
